The Home Of The Brave
Posted by James on August 18, 2009

My sister and brother-in-law are both in Afghanistan right now. This is the only picture I can really get. My sister sent it to me on my birthday. She sees these mountains and planes every morning.
I have to confess that I’ve never sat around in my house and thought about my sister as a brave person or anything. I don’t think that’s something any of us spend a lot of time contemplating. Is this person brave or is that person brave.
Well, in the last week have had a lot of email conversations with my sister and I have to say that I’m quite proud of her right now. She has to carry a locked, cocked and ready to rock, M-16 around with her all day.
Yeah, I know someone who is brave.
Sis, I love you, come back home safely, please.

We all love Christie a bunch, but Lydia is especially fond of her Auntie. She’s so proud and prays for her everyday! She says her friends think her aunt is cool.
Mom D, how did you give birth to two computer geeks?

You sure do bless me, Julie! =) I am blushing right now.

Great post James.
Tell your sister and brother-in-law for me that I thank them for their service to our country and for protecting us from people who want to harm us. I think that they are both brave and are heroes!! Sometimes when military personnel read and hear some of the hateful and stupid things written and said here at home, they start to wonder if everyone feels that way and if what they are doing is worthwhile. Your sister and brother-in-law make me feel proud of our country and I must confess, lately there has been times that I feel great concern about where our country is headed.

Son, Jill’s daughter is carring a M-16 as a gunner on a Hummer in a very dangers country. She has left behind in the States a one year old baby and husband. It’s been very hard on Jill. Her daughter will be gone a year.
Gill, who ever you are so blessed my heart on the comment you made for not only our daughter and son-in-law but all of our men and women who serve our country. Our daughter has taught me a lot about military life and to walk up to a service person and shack their hand and say thank-you for serving our country. It means a great deal to then.
Son,you did good!

Uncle Gil understands because he was in the service, too, during the Vietnam era. Uncle Gil, I’m ashamed to admit that I don’t know the details of your service – just that you served.

Gil was in Thiland just before Viet-nam got heated up but he was working on things leading up to that time. If he had re-enlisted he would have been out there ahead building bridges for the soldiers to cross.
We pray daily for our country and our soldiers.

What amazes me is that we have a 100% volunteer military. That is a lot of people dedicated to protecting this country!

Marilyn, thanks for updating us on what Gil did. I’ve never asked him about it either.

I love to see the expressions on Soldiers faces when I walk up to them and thank them for Serving. I don’t do this near often enough, but when I can I do, so does Gil.

Gil lived near the jungle in huts with grass roofs. The one thing he questions himself on when he was there is: why did I take all the pic in Black & White film. Guess there was some poisonous snakes out there too. I’m sure he would love to share his experiences with you James & JUles.

James I too pray for your sisters well being and safe return home. I really appreciate our volunteer forces and all they do in such miserable circumstances, with the heat and dangers.

By the way, that picture is beautiful, despite the dangers surrounding. Thanks for sharing. It sure stirs the need for more prayers for our fighting men and women.

Thank you, Marlis, for your prayers. We all appreciate them so much!

Son, thank you for keeping this picture and post about your sister and her hubbie doing their duty so far away from home.
She is counting down the days and so am I! They work very long hours with only one day off. If my tax dollars goes for anything it goes to our service men who really serve our country and many in much danger in more ways than we know!! Thanks!

Your Sis, Son has moved up in a higher rank while serving our country. Home is on her mind and mine too!
