Why the lighthouse?

As some of you know my company logo is a lighthouse.  I’ve been asked before why I chose A lighthouse and there are several reasons.  I believe all the reasons can be used as a metaphor for business.

First let’s look at strength.  Some lighthouses are actually built in the water.  It takes a strong structure to withstand the waves crashing into it.  The same goes for a business.  A business needs to be strong enough to make it through the hard times that will fall on all business.

Lighthouses come in many shapes and sizes.  So too do businesses come in many shapes and sizes but they all still have the same overall function.  That function is to consistently serve those who depend on them.

How about teamwork?  Can a lighthouse function by itself?  No, it absolutely cannot.  A lighthouse needs the help of a keeper to perform its duty.  Without daily attention a lighthouse will fail to perform its function.  It is, of course, the same with business.  Without the constant work of the team members within a business it cannot serve anyone.

How about something spiritual?  Does a lighthouse provide something that can’t be touched or measured?  It absolutely does.  A lighthouse is reliable.  A lighthouse serves everyone equally and consistently.  A business too should be a reliable entity.  It should provide a consistent and reliable service to all its customers, big and small.
